Etorphine

A narcotic analgesic morphinan used as a sedative in veterinary practice. In certain countries,m99 classified as a Schedule 1 drug and hence, in these countries, it can be used legally only by health professionals and for research purposes. Etorphine, is  available to the patients with or without prescription.
This compound belongs to the class of organic compounds known as morphinans. These are polycyclic compounds with a four-ring Etorfina skeleton with three condensed six-member rings forming a partially hydrogenated phenanthrene moiety, one of which is aromatic while the two others are alicyclic.

Etorphine Hydrochloride (also known as M99,  or Large Animal Immobilon) was first synthesised by Bentley & Hardy in 1963 and is chemically related to morphine. When Etorphine is given subcutaneously, it is 1,000 to 80,000 times more potent than morphine as an analgesic. blue knight strain Its use for immobilising animals results largely from its ability to cause catatonia at very low dose levels (for example, the total required dose for a rhino may be as low as 5.0 mg).
